What is the Nyoloha Scholarship?
Unlike a standard bursary, the Nyoloha Scholarship is a comprehensive development program. It identifies raw, untapped talent across South Africa and provides a bridge between potential and professional success.
The program is a joint initiative between the Arts & Culture Trust, Nedbank Arts Affinity, and the MTN Foundation, designed to support undergraduate studies starting in the 2027 academic year.
Eligibility: Is This for You?
To ensure the scholarship reaches those who need it most, ACT has specific criteria. You are eligible if you:
Are a South African citizen between the ages of 17 and 25.
Are currently in Grade 12 or have already matriculated with university exemption.
Are not currently registered for any arts-related degree at a tertiary institution.
Are not a professional artist (i.e., you do not earn a full-time living from your art).
Can demonstrate financial need and exceptional talent in your chosen discipline.
Supported Creative Disciplines
The scholarship is split into two main categories, awarding two full scholarships valued at up to R300,000 each:
Category | Sub-Disciplines Included |
Performing Arts | Acting, Dance, Singing, and Musical Theatre. |
Visual & Digital Arts | Fine Arts, Sculpting, Photography, Graphic Design, and Animation. |
The Journey: More Than Just Funding
Winning the scholarship is the final goal, but the journey itself offers immense value to all shortlisted participants:
The Mentorship Phase: 80 shortlisted candidates will undergo months of intensive online training and mentorship from industry heavyweights.
Professional Exposure: Participants learn the "business" of being an artist—from personal branding to digital literacy and AI tools.
The Finals Week: The top 15 finalists will be flown to Johannesburg for a high-stakes "Finals Week," culminating in a gala showcase and exhibition where the winners are crowned.
How to Apply Before April 27
The application process is entirely digital. To give yourself the best chance, prepare the following:
A Professional Headshot: A clear photo of yourself.
Certified ID Copy: Front and back.
Academic Results: Your latest Grade 12 or Matric certificate.
Your Portfolio/Audition: * Performing Arts: A 2-minute video showcasing your talent.
Visual/Digital Arts: A digital portfolio of your best work.
Pro Tip: Don’t wait until the final hour of April 27th. Uploading high-quality videos and portfolios takes time. Ensure your "Motivation Letter" clearly explains why you deserve to "Rise" with ACT.

The Arts & Culture Trust is South Africa’s oldest non-profit arts funding organization. By extending this deadline, they are ensuring that no talent goes undiscovered due to a lack of time or resources.
